last saturday, visiting friends in Glendale, i got hammered

hammered enough to pray before the porcelin god 6 times

it started enough innocently enough, visiting friends, good food, light drink i made to start, and then i got another drink brought to me, same as always, cape cod, but stronger.

board games played, another drink, really bad karaoke singing, lol, which i think we were loud

final drink, as there was no cranberry juice left (finished the bottle)

queesy feeling in the tummy, i remember the floor of the bathroom feeling really comfortable, almost enough to sleep on, but something was coming, so i rested a hand on the seat so my head wouldnt fall in, and thinking, this may be even more comfortable

then, the praying began, lol

6 verses later, the floor felt really good, but i got up stumbled over to a bean bag chair, and said something or another, and like 4 of us slept at my friends apt, me on the bean bag, one on the couch, another on another couch, and two more upstairs

had to suck it up sunday, and go move furniture all day from the condo by the tarpits, back to glendale.

waking up monday to go back to san diego, to work, felt like a mack truck had run me over, of course, it felt that way all day sunday, lol

the sad thing is, my brother and sister don't believe i got sloshed damnit

I would go to post and the blogger would say there was an error, and i couldnt post
but now that I am back.....

I've applied to University of Tennessee, and am still waiting to hear back from them
I now am the head of the magazine section at the bookstore (for craps sake, put the magazines back when you're done with them!)
baseball season is right around the corner (Josh, was the NL only league draft already held, and I missed it?)
I've been reading quite a few books (for obvious reasons)an excellent book is Shattered Sword :

The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway

told from the side of the Japanese, it is an excellent book that talks about the way they operated their carriers, their tactics, and the reasons behind them
what they went through onboard their ships, i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy

also, the alternate history books of Harry Turtledove are also very goodthe premise is the south wins the Civil War, and the North has its only ally in Imperial Germany. The South is allied with England and France, so WW1 is fought on the Canadien and Southern Fronts in addition to Europe. Eventually, the South looses WW1, and basically a Hitler like southerner rises into power

Nov 18, in my L.A. league, playing 1st base, i had done a pretty good job fielding the position
until the final out had to be made
with the team up by 1, in the final inning, with a man on 3rd, and 2 outs, the batter grounded out to 3rd, who threw to me covering, the ball went into the glove, and promptly dropped and rolled along the ground, runner safe at 1st, and the man on 3rd scores the tying run, after i dived on the ball and made a futile attempt to throw him out at home
ARRRRGGGH!
next batter pops up, 3rd out, game over
that didn't sit well, and still gnaws at me
granted, we blew a 6 run lead int he final inning, but still i had the final out in my glove, and i dropped it
but....
the night before, playing for my S.D. team (Adelaide's) i hit a monster shot, a beautiful arc that i stood to watch for a couple of seconds
if you can picture Fenway, and flip it, so the green monster is in RF, and the bullpens are in LF, i hit the ball where the centerfield camera would have been
only problem with that? i hit it about a foot from where the fence ended, the ball ricoched off the light pole and the fielder picked it up, and i ended up with a double
still, i was about a foot away from hitting a beautiful arcing HR out of that park
trust me, i would have flipped open my batting gloves and done the HR trot
at least we won 45-3

Well, to sum it up : finishing work on the house, and looking for a job i've so far applied for 2 different places the 1st is the one i really want, and that is being the MLB.com stats guy for the live baseball that you watch on their site, its seasonal, but i applied to petco, angels, and Dodgers stadium as places i can work at, and would watch the game, and send what happens to MLB.com, and they update it for the people, the 2nd job would be at bookstar, which is another name for barnes and noble. other than that, i'm finishing up the house, which is looking awesome, and will have to have a party sometime after i finish, new look, etc. still picking up bottlecaps from the Mattapalooza Going Away Party believe it or now, but its all good, got some new barstools for the kitchen, and am painting the seat dodger blue, with the LA interlocking logo in the middle in white, with a grey outline, and then in red, on one stool, their world championship years, another will have their retired numbers, and the last will have their cy young years. its gonna look awesome

The weekend of November 11, the family and I went off to Knoxville, to pay a visit to Mike, and to celebrate an early Thanksgiving
Flying through Atlanta, we immediatly knew we were in the south, by the fact that getting off the plane, there were 2 guys in full on hunting gear
getting to Knoxville, it was a bit wierd walking around the campus, being in the south, the school is mostly white, and we felt very out of place. Going into Mike's spanish class, trying to explain Pan Dulce (Mexican Bread) to the class was a bit odd. Even i could understand more Spanish than most people in the class, which is saying alot, but after explaining that the bread was cake with a cornbread texture, a light went on with the mention of cornbread, and everybody partook in the yummy treats
Mike's room-mates are pretty cool, Alex and Nate
Nate kicked my ass in Madden 06, as it was 42-0 by the half
Alex killed me in Star Wars Battlefront 2
and i can say that I am 1-1 against Mike in MLB 05
going to the Tennessee - Memphis game was fun, UT has about 30 cheerleaders, and like 9-10 baton twirlers, and like 3-4 different mascots, 2 dogs, an actual dog, a volunteer, and a walking horse that comes to one game a year, does 2 laps, and is done
seeing a different brand of football than USC, but i can honestly say, the SEC is booooring football, 75% of the plays were running, and the longest pass was 25yds, maybe
also, running a draw play on 3rd and 16, will not surprise the defense, and we saw UT win in a comeback, 20-16
the next day, we went to the Tennessee Grill, and all i have to say, is they have the best ribs i have ever had, the meat literally came off the bones, by just lifting the bones up, and smothered in BBQ sauce
overall, it was a fun trip, seeing a different part of the country, and by the end of it, I was ready to hunt me down some yankee scumbags

heard that term from a White Sox fan, talking about Cubs fans who were jumping on the Sox bandwagon. which brings to to ask, Did Matt root for the White Sox (matt being a cubs fan) or did he root against Josh(cards fan) and root for the astros

confusing, but my money is on Matt not rooting for the cardinals/white sox at all

also, Matt probably was unable to watch the games, being that he is blitzkrieging through europe right now on a business trip (beautiful pics by the way)

anyway, myself being a Dodger fan, there was no joy in Dodger-ville this year, but i congratulate the White Sox on breaking their curse, somewhere Shoeless Joe is smiling

Dodger stadium is renovating its seats, and selling their old, there are 2000 pairs of seats for sale, 250$ apiece, from the different sections. personally it would be awesome to have something like that, but with no work right now, is it justified, being able to play MLB2006 in an actual stadium seat. i want to buy the seat and then get job, but not sure any advice, from anybody?

Movies, television, video games... these days it's hard to tell what's real and what's not.

Ahh, France, it was such an awesome time, that know i have to get used to everything i missed while i was awayNice was beautiful, and we got rained on for only 1 day, other than that, it was mostly 80 F, with about 60% humidity, the beaches are awesome, clean, gorgeous blue waters, the downside is that its not sand, but small smooth rocks, but it was much more enjoyably than a sandy beachi found it funny that i've lived in San Diego for 4 yrs and have been to the beach twice, i live in Nice for 2 weeks, and i go to the beach 8-9 timesmaybe it was the part about the topless girls that made it better, hehewe went parasailing (for real) mike doesnt believe me, but it was awesome, soaring above the med, seeing all of NiceWe visited Cannes, saw the film festival location, on one of the islands off Cannes, we saw the cell that the man in the iron mask stayed inWe went to Monaco, saw the exotic plant gardens, the Oceanographic museum, the royal palaceIt was quite an enjoyably trip, and I'll try and post some pics online for allLinda and I lived the how to see Europe on $15 a day, cause we spent each, about 200 bucksbut most importantly, we had a great time

also, soccer hooligans, hilarious in person, they had taken over one end of a local train, and we singing musicals, Linda knew which song they were singing, but they were on their way to Monaco for the Liverpool - Moscow match

yes, no work, and busy cleaning house, getting ready for my trip to Nice, registering for school, etc

yesterday, monday went with family to the track, actually left with house money. Due to the fact that I bet 2$ on a 80-1 horse to finish 3rd, and he did, surprisingly, won a whole 10$

now, im going to mostly be stripping the bathroom paint and repainting, and just general around the house mantenaince

no more mike to play MLB 05 against as he went up to L.A. last night

but we did play softball last night, a little scrimmage against Warwicks, a place down the street from Adelaide's. and we won the battle of la jolla 11-8, hahaha

i have a softball pre-season game tonight for the Locked Storage Bandits, swim tommorow, and another softball game in L.A. on friday night

Baseball is back, and im getting back into MVP Baseball, and tonights game was an awesome one : Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Kansas City Royals, and i started a 20 yr old rookie, i won 2-0, the rook pitched 8 innings giving up a double in the 2nd, and thats it, final line for the rook : 8 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 9 K, hes 3-1 now, not bad........ let the baseball frenzy begin!

we have customers who think theirs is the only order we have for the day, bosses who sit in their office, having no idea what or how busy it is, only to come down to the floor, see 2 customers BEING HELPED, and calls for more people to help the sales associates, bosses who sit in their office and make it a point to stay there, preach customer service, and when they are on the sales floor and asked a question, somebody else can help them.

of course, their lips are always puckered to kiss the ass of and to help people who spend money all the time, disregarding all rules set down for holiday deliveries by themselves to the rest of the staff, just so mr/mrs moneybags can get their order at a certain time (definitaly not allowed to any other customer, and if it is, the sales person gets talked down to)

trust me, be nice to your florist, because we have a great time making fun of your cards, what you order, or just pretty much making fun of you in general (especially if your a mean bastard/bitch). your order will get there, and just because you don't know how our return system works doesnt mean we're charging you twice. we know what we are doing, you don't, and explaining it to you would mean drawing graphs a monkey could figure out

lastly, nobody cares if its in a sales manual you havent seen for 3 years, and is still in the middle of a re-write

Ode to the Nice GuysThis rant was written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal
This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.
This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.
This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.
The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.
So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.

there are two right now....
the mysterious red head, walks past the shop 2-3 times a week, down to the bank and back past the shop again, works at a skin care place. really cute, red hair (dyed), little shorter than me, shes older than me cause i've helped her at the shop couple times

the 2nd is a bit more complicated, but at the same time, simpler.
i've liked her for awhile, she used to work with me at the shop, but shes been gone for maybe a year and a half now, medium height, brunette, and i found out she broke up with her b/f 2-3 weeks ago, and now she lives pretty close-by. We're friends, and enjoyed talking at the shop and seeing movies with others, etc.

So i guess one side of me says i can see if she'd like to go out, but the other says wait and be patient. this is all so confusing to me. no clue on what to handle this situation

Yet we remember the results, four years of war, and the finale with Hiroshima and Nagasaki

People who protest the use of atomic weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki obviously forget Pearl Harbor, Wake Island, the Phillipine Death March, Malaya and Singapore, among other places.

They do not understand that without the atomic bombs, Japan would have been invaded, causing more casulties then Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa combined.

Our company softball team is the only team i can think of that is 7-1 without winning at least half of its games.
Thursdays we play softball..... sometimes. This is dependant on the other team showing up of course. We are 4-0 in forfiets, and 3-1 in actual game play. Next week we play the only other team with 1 loss, the 8-1 Rudy's Kids, their one loss, to us in the 1st week by forfiet.

Store meetings, ahhhh, where should i begin.....
how bout a quick rundown on the meeting schedule

7:45 : Begin meeting
7:45 - 8:15 : Talk about how great the employees are
8:15 - 8:30 : Open meeting to talk about actual store stuff (sometimes)

its not that i dont like meetings (i don't) its just that if i don't need to show up until 8:15 or abouts, then thats fine, cause thats apparently when we actually start our meetings. I don't need 30 minutes of people telling us how great we are and how great we were during the holiday. NOTE: MICROMANAGING SHOULD NOT IN ANY WAY BE REWARDED, and yet, our shop revels in it.
I am not the only one who feels this way where i work, we all hate being micromanaged and it happens more and more as we near the holidays. We can work without a great eye watching over us, the shop will not spontaneously combust if we are left alone. I am so glad that this is my last christmas where i work, and hopefully, last 3-4 months there. School beckons, and the little shop of horrors has lost its magic touch

Ahhh, the crazy ideas that go through my head. I play company softball, we aren't bad, but our field sucks, all dirt, no traction. and i forgot my cleats in L.A. over the Thanksgiving weekend. I hit an awesome 300+ ft shot out of the park (literally), and it was one of those towering no doubt about it hits, now i'm waiting for the Dodgers to call.....

but anyway, our games our thursday, and wed night, a crazy idea pops into my head:

DRIVE TO LOS ANGELES AND GET THE SHOES

ahhh, the glory and greatness that is USC football. Nothing can beat sitting in the rain, watching #1 USC basically lay the smackdown on a bunch of players from the school formerly known as Notre Dame. Matt Leinhart puts it best, "like taking candy from a baby." Sitting in the rain falling for most of the game, we were all wet, but it was a good wet, for we were all loving the play on the field. Irish coaches were angry at the fake punt we pulled out in the fourth quarter, then scoring on the next play, but all I have to say about the play......deal with it. My brother and I play baseball against each other and its a matter of life and death between us

It started with MLB '99, i loved to play it as the Indians, they were the big powerhouse on that game, and i would challenge Mike to play. On that game, Chuck Finley was God!!! Using Chuck Finley, the record of Brandon vs. Mike soared to something like 246-78 in favor of me. There was hardly a time that the seemingly God-like Chuck Finley could be defeated by Mike. There were games were our starters would stretch it out to a nice 16 innings apiece. No, not very realistic.
We then went on to play High Heat 2003 against each other, using my season, and he would be whichever team i faced on my season, so the stakes were higher for me, it was my season. In my 4 seasons playing as the Dodgers, I could not win the series, nothing would work. But, for my brother, the game was more equal, there was no Chuck Finley God. But, i was still the master of the baseball, 214-112, or somethin close, Mike was closing the gap.
Now, the great equalizer, MVP Baseball. I would have to say that Mike and I are pretty even on this game, and i hate it. I long for the days when Chuck Finley would take the mound for me and dominate my brother. He had his football, and I had my baseball, I don't mess with his sport, he doesn't mess in mine. Matt also plays me, and in his first time playing me, he goes 10-0 against me, in our Cubs-Dodgers rivalry. Wow, that sucks. Especially since at that time, i had played 3 seasons, with playoffs, on the game totalling 1,629 innings, to his none. Not a good day for the DodgerBlue. Since then, i have made it a respectable 6-13, but still, I can't stand the fact that I have a losing record to him.

UPDATE: sorry, Matt is correct, i won like 4 in a row on him before he started to win again :)

I work at a flower shop. Granted, its not the best of jobs, its not the worst of jobs, it makes money. I've been working there since 9/10, its easy to remember, cause it was the day before 9/11, and being there after this long, work has been sucking lately. Its probably the fact that the holidays are coming and everybody seems to run around like a chicken with its head cutoff, thinking that if they rush around, they can get things done faster. It drives me insane and completely nuts, especially the ones that micromanage the shop. There are plans in the works for me to cut back to part time and go back to school, getting back into the swing of things and then finishing up my college, but until that day comes, i stand around, help mindless, crazy, rich customers (not all are mindless, there are a few that are really awesome and cool), and go insane in my own little shop of horrors
